Refused, 2023-06-07 · Isle of Wight Council · 23/00559/TW - T1 and T2; Corsican Pines. Remove. Due to danger to life and property. Both of these trees lean heavily towards bedroom accommodation in 54 Madeira Road and is in the direct line of where the trees would fall if they failed. The professional report in application 19/01424/TW notes the following: 'T1 Pine; this has recently lost a large primary branch which has torn out with no sign of obvious foreseeability. This has left the adjacent canopy exposed to wind-loading and lateral movement where it has previously provided shelter and mutual support. Branches adjacent to the lost section are at increased risk of failure.' 'T2 and T3 Pines -following the recent unforeseeable failure of a large primary branch over the car park there are valid concerns regarding these two trees due to the high occupancy target areas beneath the canopy.' The report notes the high consequence of failure. T1 and T2 are over mature trees, the crowns are already starting to collapse. In addition to the large limb lost by T1 noted above a further large limb has been lost since the report was written in 2019. The trees sit on a very steep slope and lean towards the living accommodation. Replace both trees in a more appropriate area within the site.
