- There is a very tall evergreen Oak growing with an equally tall pittosporum on our boundary by the driveway entrance. Historically there has been no management of the oak and I now sits across Matford Road. If is caught by high vans. We had a skip delivered recently (a small one on a small skip lorry). Delivery was fine, but the collection lorry snared itself and tore off one of the lower branches. My carpenter had to saw the branch off where it had snapped. We would like to use Neil Bygrave to bring it into a better shape and away from the traffic height. His quotation states these works:- To lift the crowns of one Drive Mouth Ilex Oak and Pittosporum by 3m to reduce Pavement, Road overhang and allowing lorry access to Property Parking. This would be achieved by the removal of 6 lowest Ilex branches and 3 lowest Pittosporum branches. Prune Ilex branch ends to allow 1m gap with Phone Line. All debris from work done disposed of off site. We agreed parking on Drive for Truck and connected Chipper.
Permitted, 2026-04-13 · Exeter City Council · 26/0384/CAT - I wish to fell and completely remove a Bramley apple tree. The tree is 20-25cm diameter at 1.5 m high. It was planted, I believe, in the 1930s, alongside the property boundary wall. It is in poor health and no longer produces good fruit (so a replacement tree was planted a few years ago, which has now reached maturity). An arborist has advised that it was a mistake to plant such a tree on a wall in the first place.

The suggested specification of works affecting Lindon Lodge is:Lowest southern limb, arising at 6m above ground level (AGL) remove lowest secondary branch back to source on parent limb, diameter of cut 100mm; reduce remaining tertiaries by 1.5m, MDC 25mm. Next lowest limb on southern aspect, arising at 7m AGL remove lowest secondary branch back to source on parent limb, diameter of cut 100mm; remove lowest (of three) secondary branches, diameter of cut 75mm, prune remaining tertiaries by 2m, MDC 25mm. The suggested spec of works for the 34 Matford Avenue Garden is Reduce western aspect by 2m, MDC 25mm Reduce southern aspect slightly to contain and reduce loadings on potentially newly exposed limbs by 1.5m, MDC 25mm. Specification across entire canopy Crown lift to 4m above ground level, MDC 25mm Remove major hazardous deadwood T2 - Pine (Conservation Area, no TPO) Prune eastern aspect to achieve a 3m clearance from property and reduce south eastern aspect by 2m, MDC 75mm Remove major hazardous deadwood, remove old brace and install new 4t Cobra bracing system Reason for works T1 - this mature Oak tree is now in contact with Linden Lodge, suggested pruning is necessary to achieve a suitable clearance. The canopy of the Oak tree is spreading westwards towards 34 Matford Avenue, intended light pruning is to contain. The southerly pruning is to reduce any loadings on any potentially newly exposed limbs. T2 - the Pine tree is spreading towards the frontage of the property, suggested pruning is to contain. All the above listed works are considered arboriculturally appropriate and will have minimal impact on the tree's physiological processes.
